Community Partners

GPS
Convergence Events Inc. and Geek Partnership Society (formerly MISFITS) will continue to work together, after jointly signing a Partnership Agreement in March. The main points or partnership include:

  • Function space for fundraising, educational events, and other programming will be made available during the CONvergence convention at least equivalent to the amount of space available to GPS at CONvergence in 2009.
  • Convergence Events, Inc. will donate to MISFITS not less than $25,000 each year.
  • GPS will provide storage for Convergence Events, Inc. assets.
  • Both Convergence Events, Inc. and GPS will encourage their attendees, members and site visitors to participate in the events and programs of the other, partner organization.

The Partnership Agreement has an initial commitment through 2012.

Mission Control
Convergence and GPS also agreed in May to an additional pledge of money from Convergence toward a new, shared space. This new combined space will include offices, storage, and multifunction rooms for events and activities of both organizations. The new offices will be located in the Waterbury Building, 1121 Jackson Street in Minneapolis.

Anime Detour
By virtue of working with GPS on that shared space, Convergence is proud to be in a closer relationship with Anime Detour and their parent organization, Anime Twin Cities, who contributed a substantial sum of money to GPS for the project.

Fallout Shelter Arcade
Fallout Shelter Arcade is an independent operator of Virtual World® Tesla II System™ simulator cockpits. They approached Convergence with an exciting opportunity for collaboration, and we are pleased to be hosting their BattleTech pod game simulators for the first time at CONvergence 2010.

Joking Envelope
Joking Envelope is a production company committed to high-quality intelligent comedy.  From live theater to independent film, Joking Envelope vows to take comedy seriously.  Convergence Events sponsored Joking Envelope’s holiday show, Super-Powered Revenge Christmas #1 at the Minneapolis Theater Garage, and has plans to collaborate on other projects in the future.

Vilification Tennis
Vilification Tennis is a structured improvisational show where competitors engage in a battle of insults not for the faint of heart. Thankfully, we are made of sterner stuff, and are pleased to have entered into a new partnership with Vilification Tennis in 2011. (That’s right, we said “entered.”)

Supported Organizations

Con of the North
Con of the North is the Twin Cities’ longest running games convention, providing a variety of gaming experiences from role-playing to board games and computer games. Convergence and Con of the North collaborated in a merchandise agreement at CONvergence 2010.

MN Zero
Minnesota Zero is gaming collective comprised of game-enthusiasts of all stripes, committed to encouraging pervasive gaming and collaborative play in public spaces. Convergence proudly sponsored MNZero’s participation in the 2011 Global Games Jam as the first Minnesota-based Jam location and the first analogue-only site in the history of the Games Jam.

HUGE Improv Theater
The HUGE Improv Theater is an artist-led company dedicated to supporting the Twin Cities improv community through performance and education. Convergence recently donated to HUGE Improv Theater during their fundraising campaign to secure a space for their productions.

Nerd Party
Nerd Party is a week-long series of events held on June 15-21, 2010, featuring geeky art installations, video games, movie viewings and more. We were happy to donate complimentary memberships to CONvergence to the winners of Nerd Party’s costume contest.

My Sucky Teen Romance by Emily M. Hagins
My Sucky Teen Romance is the the next film by filmmaker and CONvergence Guest of Honor alum Emily M. Hagins.  Convergence is happy to support both a former Guest and a young filmmaker by contributing $1000 as a “Sucky Benefactor” toward the production of this project.
