- What are the Steering Committee Positions?
- The Steering Committee was formed to manage decision-making and management of the convention. This separates out responsibility for daily management of the event from cross-event coordination and running of the legal entity that is the non-profit Convergence Events.
- The Steering Committee has ultimate decision making authority for the event. They report their status up to the Board. It is not the Board’s role to overrule decisions made about convention business.
- The Executives who serve on the Steering Committee each represent and serve as decisionmakers and problem solvers for a certain group of departments. The Department reporting structure currently is:
- Activities – Programming, Mainstage, Cinema Rex, Theater Nippon, Connie’s Quantum Sandbox, Gaming (22nd & ConSuite), Special Events (Garden Court), Lit Lounge, OC/CC, Masquerade, Mark Time, Harmonic Convergence
- Hospitality & Member Experience – Facilities: Hotel, Allocation/Resume, Ops, Dock, Decor, Logistics, Meeting Childcare, Smoking Tent, Transportation
- Hospitality & Member Experience – Hospitality: Splounge, ConSuite, F2E2, Parties, Guests, Artist’s Alley
- Revenue – Art Show, Registration, Merchandising, Dealer’s Room, Purchasing, Advertising, Auctions
- Communication At Con – ASL, Photography, Videography, Volunteers, IT, CVG-TV
- Communications Pre-Con – Written Pubications, Public Relations, Web-Site(s), Social Media, Creative Services, Video Production
- At Large - Communication with Board, ConCom; general back-up and support
- Do I have to quit my department head position to run for the Steering Committee?
- No, but you should consider the workload involved in both roles and be prepared to answer questions about your ability to serve in both positions. Also, as a candidate, you should be conscientious about making decisions at each level of leadership. We rely on all our volunteers, regardless of position, to make good choices; this is important for individuals who may hold multiple roles, and especially so for those who have multiple roles at different levels of leadership.
